400 meters

The 400 meter race is considered to be the longest sprint distance though it requires a degree of endurance.  The 400 meter competition is run with a staggered start and is exactly one lap.  Michael Johnson still holds the men's world record at 400 meters with a time of 43.18 seconds while the women's 400 meter world record is held by Marita Koch with a time of 47.60 seconds.
